The Times They Are A-Changing (Starting February 21)

1^st Sunday service: 8:45 am

2^nd Sunday service: 10:45 am

You might not know this, but I’m a moderately big Bob Dylan fan, and while he didn’t inspire me to change in-person Sunday morning service times, he did remind me to remind you that, indeed, the times are a-changing.

9:00 am is now 8:45 am

11:15 am is now 10:45 am

If you are wondering why they are changing, well, it is really a matter of getting back closer to how they had been. When the Governor allowed us to return to in-person services in the summer, we found the grass to be dryer by 9:00, so we started the service then. That pushed the second service later… and so we ended up with 9:00 and 11:15am.  We are turning them back with the hope of appeasing our earlier risers and accommodating those who want to be home by noon. 

What does that mean for Adult Education between services?

The Zoom coffee time will begin right after the service, around 9:50 am. The class conversation will start at 10:00 am and run until 10:35 am or so.  This represents not only a change in start time and class duration, but more important, a teaching pedagogy. Beginning February 28, the class lecture, in this case in Morning Prayer given by me, will be released online on Monday, February 22, in video form. It is the hope that people will watch it ahead of time, and then come to the class prepared for conversations and questions. 

We are trying this change for a few reasons. 

1. To live into how people, writ large, engage in online learning, with short videos or audio blogs, which they can watch or listen to when it works for them.
2. By putting out the information ahead of the class, to engage more deeply by allowing time to digest the material and/ or review more than once before the class.
3. To develop a hybrid learning model of online and incarnational community.

It may take a while to get a sense of how it is working out, which is why we wanted to try it through Lent and the Easter season. Thank you for stepping into the time changes for church, to help us better learn to be followers of Jesus.
