Epiphany is a spiritual center of gravity for the Pacific Northwest. Place matters. As a space where we can all belong, whoever we are, however we see the world, to find our spiritual center. This is our role in God’s creation. Join us in preserving and enhancing our spiritual home.

Like any family home, Epiphany occasionally requires major care to preserve and enhance our campus. This has been true for 118 years. Our last major effort was in 2016. The time has come to maintain what we have, improve usability, and address the church organ to align better with our liturgy, acoustics, and music program.

“Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you have a place at Epiphany.” If that’s true for you, this capital campaign needs your participation. It is how we honor the past and generously pass Epiphany to future generations.

100% participation: Epiphany has thrived for the past 18 years through a simple but powerful pattern: when everyone participates and gives generously according to their capacity, we have what we need. If we honor this same principle today, we’ll be able to care for this place and continue as a thriving Episcopal church.

Determining project scope:

How did we determine which projects should be funded in this campaign? Our seasoned Buildings and Grounds team, which closely monitors the condition of our campus, guided the decision. We are highly attentive to ongoing campus care, as well as occasional capital necessities like replacing boilers, patching roofs, and fixing plumbing. However, every so often, a larger investment is required. This capital campaign is shaped by the most pressing needs identified by our team.

Funding Philosophy:

As with a family’s home, a time comes when bigger projects must be undertaken to maintain the buildings and grounds. Some churches build a capital reserve to cover these larger capital costs. At Epiphany, we believe it is the responsibility of the parish present at the time to step up and cover capital needs as they arise, just as the parish of the past did on our behalf.

Role of the Capital Campaign Committee:

Raising money for capital expenditures at Epiphany begins with conversation, by reminding people in the parish that a campaign is approaching and that we will all need to step up to cover the cost. This is what is required of those who call Epiphany their spiritual home. It is the role of the Capital Campaign Committee to identify the needs and set the parameters for timing, quality, and cost. It is also the Committee’s role to communicate the need, build enthusiasm, and solicit participation within the parish. While the conversation includes sharing project details, the enthusiasm and vision are built around our common life and, in this case, a particular focus on hospitality.

Theme of Hospitality:

To paint the chapel, fix the sidewalk, and develop functional signage is a matter of hospitality.
To create a venue where many can gather (the Great Hall), and all can be heard, is a matter of hospitality.
To have a space (the Great Hall) that is cool when it’s blistering hot, and smoke-free when fires blaze in the world around us is a matter of hospitality.
To make additional space in the columbarium for the names and remains of those who call Epiphany their spiritual home and to create an environment that is accessible to all is a matter of hospitality.
To have roofs that do not leak, walls that do not leach, windows that are not falling in upon themselves and are easy to open, and floors that are not buckling, this is a matter of hospitality.
At Epiphany, worship is at the center of everything we do. It is when we gather in liturgy, the work of all people, as one body, to give thanks to God. This is the core feature of our hospitality.
