Seattle ever experiences a serious earthquake, long-term power outage or severe damage to our communications infrastructure, Epiphany will become a gathering spot in the Madrona community whether we’re ready or not. The good news is that Epiphany is part of the Seattle Emergency Hubs, a network of over 60 neighborhood groups who drill and train to coordinate resources, volunteers and communication at the community level. The bad news is that due to health and family concerns, the current leadership team is no longer able to sustain our hub. Madison Valley, the closest neighboring hub, is willing to help us train up a new group of volunteers to raise community awareness and preparedness.
What’s involved:
- Learning about Disaster Preparedness (classes are available)
- Holding classes with guest speakers to train the community (twice yearly)
- Hosting community gatherings to inform the community while building neighborliness (at least yearly)
- Practicing activating and running the Epiphany/Madrona hub (yearly)
- Supporting a neighboring hub in one of their yearly drills (e.g. Madison Park, Madison Valley, Homer Harris)
- Bringing your own personal skills to the table (e.g., HAM operator, first aid, handyman skills, language skills, the list goes on!)
