WHAT TO EXPECT
Arrive between 1:45 – 2 pm, get settled, and then get a tour of our facility. After the tour, we will break up into smaller groups and start building on the tiny homes.
We have several workstations at The Hope Factory. You will be working in teams of either two or three people. You will be paired with a Team Leader which is a volunteer with experience working on the same thing that you are. They will instruct you on the right way to build. It doesn’t matter if you’ve had years of construction experience or have never picked up a hammer before, we will show you our system as simply and as safely as we can.
WHAT TO WEAR
The Hope Factory is around 12,000 square feet. Our space is not temperature controlled, so please dress appropriately. Oftentimes we paint the homes during our build days, so please wear clothing that you do not want to get paint on. Please, no open-toed shoes.
MASK PROTOCOL
Because of WA state’s mask mandate, everyone must wear a mask (N95 or KN94 preferred). The minimum age to volunteer is 18 (please, no exceptions.)
Here are our other protocols:
1. Please bring your own gloves.
2. Please leave your own tools at home.
3. Please wear clothes you would not mind getting soiled or painted.
4. Warehouses can be difficult to heat and cool. Please dress appropriately.
5. We have indoor restrooms during the week. Honey Bucket on the weekends.
6. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way of good intentions. If you must cancel at the last minute, please contact Jenny or Pete. Others may want to volunteer in your place.
7. No experience necessary.
