Did you know that St. Bernard’s Chapel at Snoqualmie Pass was made possible thanks to the vision of Webb and Virginia Moffett, members of Epiphany Parish? In the late 1950s, as skiing at Snoqualmie transitioned from train travel to individual motorists, the Moffetts saw the need for a chapel where skiers could worship without giving up their weekend on the slopes. Their idea of an interdenominational chapel helped bring together the Diocese of Olympia, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese, and a number of Lutheran churches and private donors to make it a reality, in collaboration with the Church Council of Greater Seattle.
Over the years, St. Bernard’s Chapel became a spiritual home for skiers, hosting multiple services every Sunday during the winter season. While its activity slowed over time, the chapel remains a cherished part of the community, offering interdenominational services year-round. Thanks to the Moffetts’ vision and dedication, the chapel continues to serve as a place of worship and connection for locals and visitors alike, with highlights like its popular Christmas Eve Candlelight service.
