Racial Reconciliation Library—A New Timely Book

We just received a copy of Sophie Williams’ new book “Anti-Racist Ally: an Introduction to Activism and Action.” This pocket-sized guide gives straightforward answers to questions and practical actions you can take to better understand racism in U.S. society and become an ally against it. As the Amazon review notes, this book “is a crucial starting point for every anti-racist ally, covering complex topics at the heart of anti-racist principles.

Whether you are just finding your voice, have made a start but aren’t sure what to do next, or want a fresh viewpoint, Anti-Racist Ally introduces and explains the language of change and shows you how to challenge the system, beginning with yourself. Sophie reminds you that this is a learning process, which means facing difficult truths, becoming uncomfortable, and working through the embarrassment and discomfort….[T]ogether, anti-racist allies can use their power to truly change the world and lives.” In this book, Williams focus is racism, but she also touches on sexism, classism, ableism, oppression, and white supremacy.

And there are many other great books in our library. Here is a link to the books by author. Here is a link to books by subject matter which are categorized by the subjects (1) Black Voices/Spirituality, (2) History, (3) Justice, (4) Latinx, (5) Memoir/Biography (6) Native American, (7) Novel and (8) Privilege/Anti-Racism. This library is housed in the Fireside Room which we expect to reopen sometime in 2021. But in the meantime, please email Sherilyn Peterson at SPeterson@perkinscoie.com with any book request and she will check it out for you, deliver it and pick it up when done.
