A source of beauty and solace
In 1998, Saint John’s Abbey and University commissioned renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson to produce the first hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible in 500 years. Mr. Jackson recruited artists and scribes from around the world to help. The result is an artistic epic. “The continuous process of remaining open and accepting of what may reveal itself through hand and heart on a crafted page is the closest I have ever come to God.” –Donald Jackson, Artistic Director, The Saint John’s Bible Imagined for use as the Benedictine monks used their illuminated Bibles — a guide to worship, an inspiration and a source of beauty and solace — The Saint John’s Bible was printed in limited edition (299 seven-volume sets referred to as the Heritage Edition). Each full-sized edition hand-styled and embellished by Mr. Jackson and his team. A generous parishioner has made it possible for Epiphany to acquire one of the Heritage Editions. We use the seven volumes in our worship services, for community outreach, and for retreats. One volume is always on display in the back of our main church.
