John Garlid has served as Music Administrator at Epiphany Parish since 2020, where he organizes, distributes, and collects sheet music and digital scores for the Sunday morning choir, Evensong choir, and choristers. He continues to digitize the parish’s music library, which includes over 1,000 anthems and motets, in addition to service music, psalms, and descants. John has also sung as a countertenor section leader and soloist at Epiphany since 2019.
Born in Cos Cob, Connecticut, John began singing from a young age as a treble in the Men and Boys Choir at Christ Church, Greenwich, before studying experimental music and composition at Bard College in the Hudson Valley. In addition to his work at Epiphany, John freelances as a professional choral singer with secular groups such as the Evergreen Ensemble and Nothing Gold, and sings weekly offices with The Compline Choir at St. Mark’s Cathedral. He also works as a union stagehand for IATSE Local 15 and manages a youth bagpipe band based in Edmonds.
Outside of work and music, John enjoys cycling, swimming, mountaineering, seeing live music, and spending time with his grey tabby cat, Beni.
