Wednesdays | 7:30 – 8:00 am | Chapel
For years before the pandemic, a small group gathered in the Chapel on Wednesday mornings to sit silently together. That practice quietly ended in 2020 and never resumed. Beginning Wednesday, September 2, Morning Meditation returns, to be held by Michael Megalli and John Neff. Michael and John both have well-developed personal meditation practices, but neither is offering himself as a teacher. There is no prescriptive method to follow and no goal anyone is expected to reach. Instead, consider this an invitation to join others in the community who are interested in coming together to experience the power of group meditation.
The morning begins at 7:30 am with about five minutes of settling in, a few words of orientation, sometimes a short reading. Then twenty minutes of silence, sitting together. Then five minutes at the end for anyone who wants to say something about how the sit went, though no one has to. At 8:00 am, the session ends, and everyone is out the door and into the day. If you’ve never meditated, this is a great place to start. If you’ve been sitting for years, this is an opportunity to come and practice with others. The Chapel is a wonderful place to sit and Wednesday mornings are a natural hinge in the week. Chairs are provided; those who prefer a cushion are welcome to bring their own.
