Spiritual direction is an ancient practice in which spiritual seekers attend to the presence and action of God in their life. The term is a bit of a misnomer, because a spiritual director doesn’t “tell you what to do.” Spiritual direction might be better described as “holy listening.” It’s an opportunity to sit with a person of prayer who can help you listen for what God is up to in your life.
Beginning in September, Susan Pitchford will be available to meet with prospective directees (yes, that’s a word) at Epiphany. Susan is halfway through a two year training program run by the Benedictine sisters at The Priory in Lacey, WA. During the coming year, while completing her training, she’ll be seeing directees free of charge. Spiritual direction sessions are normally an hour long.
Henri Nouwen said, “The goal of spiritual direction is spiritual formation—the ever-increasing capacity to live a spiritual life from the heart.” If you find yourself desiring greater closeness to God and a life lived from the heart–or just more information–contact Susan at spitchford@epiphanyseattle.org.
