Kate-a-Palooza

Dear Epiphany,

I think I am as optimistic about Epiphany as I have ever been! It feels like the Holy Spirit is completely driving her way through the life of our congregation. There are new ministries that are popping up (Tiny Homes, Ronald McDonald meals, the Grief Support Fellowship). There are new people that are showing up. There are people returning who drifted away during COVID. There’s a staff that is working together like Seal Team Six, or maybe the offensive line of the Kansas City Chiefs. Pick your analogy, the point is, it is a mature, collegial, capable group that is keeping the wheels attached to the chassis we call Epiphany F1. What a very exciting time.

And what adds to that… another driver: the Reverend Kate Wesch.  We could not be more excited to have her back. She and her family landed in Seattle on Monday and moved into the house she and Joel purchased on Thursday.  Oliver is set to start his freshman year at U-Prep. Myles will be finishing elementary school at Lake and Park School. I’m also pleased to report that he made the Kraken Peewee hockey team as one of their goalies. And Joel has returned to work with the Seattle Fire Department.

There are so many great things to say about Kate. Those of you that know her have experienced her leadership capacity and her operational skills. Many of the ministries that are here at Epiphany were built by her. And so, she returns to rejuvenate some of them and to start new ones. The two immediate tasks in front of her have to do with Small Groups and the stewardship of our Children and Family Ministries. She is going to need your help in doing this, and I am counting on you to provide her with all the support and enthusiasm worthy of this extraordinary church.

On Sunday August 4, we are formally welcoming Kate back.  It’ll be a great day.  The choir will be reconvening to raise the roof for the glory of God, and we’ll have a picnic after the 11:00 am service. I really hope you can make it… and if you would like to contribute to the picnic, please contact Amanda at amanda@epiphanyseattle.org.

I’m thrilled with what’s happening at Epiphany. I’m thrilled with all of you. We have an important role to live out as a neighborhood church in the city of Seattle; to be a spiritual center of gravity that draws people into sacred community, where all are included, accepted as souls fully beloved.  This is what we do to re-knit together a broken and divided world.

Peace upon your souls.
