This Lent: Epiphany’s Catechumenate

Adult Baptism and Confirmation Class
March 2 | 6:00 – 7:15 pm
March 13, 20, 27 & April 4, 10 | 4:00 – 5:15 pm
Christie House Library

As Lent approaches, I want to invite you to consider being part of the catechumenate. It is a word for the ancient time of Christian instruction during the season of Lent. The idea is that prior to baptism there is a significant time of learning and conversation around what it means to be a follower of Jesus. The catechumens would then be baptized at the Great Vigil of Easter.

This class is not just for people who want to be baptized, or confirmed, or received into the Episcopal church, though it is for them as well, but more so for people who want to go deep into Christian conversation and inquiry this Lent.

If you are interested in learning more about the Episcopal/Anglican faith and you are able to make the commitment to the classes and Sunday worship this class is for you!

I will be leading the class and Doyt+ will teach a few of the classes as well. Topics are: Introduction, The Sacraments & Incarnational Theology, On Being Anglican/Episcopalian, The Role of Spiritual Disciplines, “Relationship is Primary”, and Discernment.

This class culminates in baptism at the Great Vigil of Easter on April 16 at 8:00 pm or confirmation, reaffirmation, and reception with the Rt. Rev. Gregory Rickel on June 12, if desired. This class is open to everyone. If you have any questions, please contact me at spitchford@epiphanyseattle.org.
