Sharing Our Stories: Adult Formation in 2022

“Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you have a place at Epiphany.” We’re reminded of that each time we gather, and as Episcopalians, we understand the usefulness of hearing things over and over so they “work the earth of our heart.” But how often do we talk about our journeys? Coffee hour is a time for fellowship, but it isn’t really set up for deep conversations that help us support and learn from each other. To become the kind of Christian community where we do that, we need time to go deeper.

So where are you on your spiritual journey? Want to talk about it?

Our adult forums typically involve a presentation, ending with a short period for discussion. But this winter we’re going to flip things around: after very short presentations, we’ll focus on discussion. We’ve all been through a lot over the last couple of years, and when people have been through hard times, they need to tell their stories. What have been our greatest challenges, and what has sustained us through this time? What have we learned, how have we grown, and what new directions might be opening up before us?

“Sharing Our Stories” is a seven week series that will take place at our usual Forum time: between the services on Sundays, 10-10:45. The series begins on January 9, 2022 and the last session will be on February 20, with a break for the Annual Meeting on January 30. Each forum will begin with a ten minute presentation to start the conversation, and the rest of our time will be spent in small groups at round tables, with some time to share with the full group at the end. The nature of the format means that for now, this series will be in-person only. The schedule of topics is as follows:

  • January 9: Faith in Hard Times
  • January 16: A Learning Church
  • January 23: Transformation
  • January 30: Annual Parish Meeting — no forum
  • February 6: Death and New Life
  • February 13: Obstacles in the Life of Faith
  • February 20: Made for Joy

This is an opportunity to share your life, with its challenges and joys, with your faith community. There is a vast reservoir of wisdom here to tap into. We hope you’ll join us as we take this time to lean on and support each other, because….you have a place at Epiphany. Click here to download the Forum workbook as a PDF.
